Women Who are Ambivalent about Women Against Women Against Feminism

The Bloggess

So...yeah.  Right now there’s a lot of talk about a tumblr called WomenAgainstFeminism.  It’s just pictures of some women holding up handwritten signs entitled “I don’t need feminism because...”  Some of the reasons they give for not needing feminism almost seem like a parody (“How the fuck am I suppose to open jars and lift heavy things without my husband?”) and some (“I don’t need to grow out my body hair to prove I’m equal to men”) just make me wonder where in the world they got their definition of feminism.

At first I considered starting my own “I Don’t Need _____ Because” tumblr with people holding equally baffling signs.  Signs like:

I don’t need books because YOU KNOW WHO WROTE BOOKS?  HITLER.  HITLER WROTE A BOOK.  NO THANK YOU, NAZIS.

I don’t need money BECAUSE I HAVE A CHECKBOOK, ASSHOLE.

I don’t need air because LOTS OF IT…

Disappointed? I think not

Life has too many disappointments to wallow in every single one of them.

Just today, in some sudden burst of brilliance I realised the actual purpose of dreams: to remind us of how ordinary this world really is. Dreams show us what we want to see, what our inate little consciousness desires. The heartbreak we experience on earth are only tests, tests that determine if you are strong enough to withstand the hardship and push through to the light at the end of the tunnel without faltering. This is life that we have to face. Some struggles are worse than others, but all fall under the same collective category: struggles.

“The best of people receive the hardest of tests.” I keep this in mind when hearing about the Palestinian crisis. It breaks my heart to know that innocent people are being brutally massacred as we speak, but it makes me smile to hear them still praying to God for forgiveness and refuge. It is their unfettered belief I hope to achieve one day. To be able to smile through every low-blow life throws at me. Palestine, I salute you.

DRAKARYS

HELLO INTERNET.

This is my first time doing anything this brave, but here goes.

Some of you are probably wondering about my blog name, Drakarys. It means “Dragon fire” in high Valyrian. I chose it because of the invincibilty of the word. It is independent and powerful, sort of how we should be living our lives. Dragon fire is a tremendous, magnificent entity that can either change or destroy. Basically what words can do to the human soul, empower it… or crush it. (also because I’m completely obsessed with Game of Thrones)

The aim of this blog is for me to vent about unusual experiences, current news, books, movies, series and sometimes a rather large dash of fangirling.
I love being humoured and it isn’t very difficult to make me laugh, so 95.7% of the time I’ll post about the strange humour I’ve found in seemingly ordinary things that can be used as a source of joy for everybody.

WARNING: THIS BLOG WILL NOT BE ABOUT EMOTIONAL, SOPPY THINGS.

Although I probably won’t do a very good job at it, I hope you’ll enjoy reading my blog.
